I received a copy of this series of three books for reviewing through Reading Alley.

Just to be fair, I would be reviewing each book in separate sections.

WARNING: – These books have adult content.

BOOK-1: MASTERING DARKNESS

MD

PEEK-A-BOO

Can love keep his humanity from slipping away?

The gruesome duties of being the Master Vampire of the Atlanta territory are enough to tempt Anthony into turning off his emotions for good and becoming the monster he sees in the mirror, once and for all. But a flirtatious chance meeting with a beautiful human shocks his heart into remembering sensations he thought he’d long lost the ability to experience. Oblivious to the supernatural world existing in the shadows all around her, Kaia has secrets of her own, though, like why she’s the only human living at Wild Woods, home to Anthony’s bitter foe.

Years after escaping a traumatic past, Kaia finally has a life she’s proud of, and maybe, also, a man. But as her nice, safe world unravels before her eyes, she has to decide what’s more important… safeguarding her secrets, or letting herself find love with a monster…

MY TAKE ON M D

GENERAL OVERVIEW

This book is more about feels. The romantic part of the book dominates the paranormal part.

PLOT

A love story between a vampire and a human. Although it is a very well-known storyline, the author has definitely treated it differently. A vampire suffering from his own insecurities was something new for me. The book is all about how Anthony overcomes his fears and finds love with Kaia.

PROS

Within few chapters of reading this book, it was evident that the real story was not limited to only what we read. I mean to say that, though this book came out more like a paranormal romance, there was another storyline being made underneath. The curiosity to find the hidden, glued me to the book.

The feelings, the fears, the dilemmas, the apprehension and the anxieties which one goes through when in love, have been portrayed remarkably. The thing which I liked most was that even though Anthony was a vampire, he was vulnerable. He had his moments of jealousy… doubted himself at times… became self-conscious. These features made his character quite likable.

CONS

The pace of the book was slow. Many at times it felt that a particular part was elongated more than necessary which hampered the momentum of the story.

BOOK 2: ABANDONED DARKNESS

AD

PEEK-A-BOO

An Alpha Wolf too wild for love…

Having the rare ability to read minds won Sebastian no friends in a world full of secrets. Years of being shunned by the very people he’s sworn to protect only reinforces his bad attitude while he cultivates the deadly power of his wolf, keeping it barely contained most days.

A collision with the sweet woman of his dreams tests his ability to be more than just the angry, brute Alpha Wolf people know him as. But as his nagging fight with the old Alpha heats up, and Sebastian’s own screw up threatens an important friendship, he aches to lash out more than ever.

Jade doesn’t understand why it’s so hard to find love. All she wants is someone sweet and polite, and someone who never brings up the fact that once a month she has to go through the nightmare of shifting into a jaguar. Her animal abilities are the weakest in the family so most days she can easily ignore that part of her existence. But after crashing into Sebastian, the most powerful, terrifying, and sexy shifter in Atlanta, her cat is awake in every good and horrible way, whether she likes it or not…

MY TAKE ON A D

GENERAL OVERVIEW

The second book in the series is with a balanced storyline. The book is entwined with moments of romance and thrill. In other words, this book is like a doorway to all the thrills and mysteries, within this series, waiting to be unraveled.

PLOT

Although it is evident that the main leads are destined to be with each other, the story is more about their journey of coming together. Their idea of living their own lives is very different from each other. How they overcome their issues and hesitations in order to keep their love alive… is worth reading.

PROS

The character Jade was quite realistic. She had her flaws, was not able to accept things readily, and hesitated in making commitments. She considered herself weak and wanted to live a safe life. I could easily understand her mental agony when she had to stand on the crossroads – either to choose the love of her life or live the life she desperately wished.

The thrill which is usually found in paranormal stories was back here, in the second installment (it was barely there in the first book). The changes happening in Anthony were like stepping stones for something big… which was quite exciting to read and anticipate.

CONS

Some parts/dialogues felt repetitive… especially the ones involving Sebastian and Jade.

BOOK 3: RESISTING DARKNESS

PEEK-A-BOO

Getting revenge was supposed to end his pain…

Ethan was a powerful Master Vampire. He wasn’t supposed to need help… Beckoning home the only vampire he’d ever made in order to exact long overdue justice, Ethan’s link to this killer was driving him mad. As he focused on his plans for what, and who might be left behind once he righted the heart-wrenching wrongs of his past, a beautiful new vampire in town threatens to distract him from his mission.

Harmony snuck into the rumored supernatural nirvana of Atlanta, GA with weapons and an attitude. Forever searching for the elusive something or someone that could satisfy her restless vampire soul, she was ready for anything that came her way… or so she thought. A murdered lover, a killer who thought he’d redeemed himself, and a sexy man that calmed her itch to move on force her to decide what she’s willing to do for love.

MY TAKE ON R D

GENERAL OVERVIEW

The book could have easily done without the romance…

PLOT

Ethan wants justice. In order to seek his revenge, he commands his Vampire to return home. But the people appearing along with this vampire trigger a new set of events which can be controlled only with the combined efforts of Ethan and his arch-enemy.

PROS

I thoroughly enjoyed the paranormal part of this story. The scenes, the pace, the happenings, were just perfect to etch the thrilling parts.

The involvement of all the characters within the series so far, and even the new ones was well-balanced.

Anthony was back!!! Although it was Ethan’s story but I was more than happy to see Anthony in action.

CONS

I said it before also… the book could have done without the romantic angle. The paranormal stuff is so good that the romance between Ethan and Harmony looks like a burden. To be honest, the role of Harmony was required more towards the end (just my opinion).
